Merge PDF, Split & Unlock · Last updated October 1, 2026
This policy explains what information Merge PDF, Split & Unlock (“the app”, “we”) collects, why, and who it is shared with. It is written to match exactly what the app does.
Summary
- Tracking. The app shows ads from Google AdMob to stay free. If you choose Allow in the App Tracking Transparency prompt, Google AdMob may use your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) to personalise ads and measure them across other companies' apps. If you choose Ask App Not to Track, the IDFA is not used, ads are not personalised, and every feature keeps working. You can change this at any time in *iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking*. Premium removes ads.
- No account, no server of our own. Your documents, the files you create and your history are stored only on your device. All PDF processing happens on your device; your documents are never uploaded.
- We never sell your data.
1. What leaves your device
The table below lists everything that leaves your device.
| Data | Sent to | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Advertising identifier (IDFA) — only if you allow tracking | Google AdMob (Google Mobile Ads and User Messaging Platform) | Personalise and measure ads |
| IP address, device model, OS version and ad interactions | Google AdMob (Google Mobile Ads and User Messaging Platform) | Show ads, prevent ad fraud and measure ad performance |
| Your ad-privacy choices (where the law requires a consent form) | Google AdMob (Google Mobile Ads and User Messaging Platform) | Remember and respect your choices |
| In-app usage events, device model, OS version and app identifiers — never document names or contents | Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics, Remote Config) | Understand which tools are used and improve the app |
| Crash logs | Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics, Remote Config) | Find and fix crashes |
2. What stays on your device
- The PDFs and images you import, and every file you create — merged, split, compressed, converted, locked or unlocked.
- All PDF work — merging, splitting, compressing, converting, locking, unlocking, scanning and text recognition — runs on your device. Your documents are never uploaded.
- Passwords you type to lock or unlock a PDF are used on your device to process that file and are never sent anywhere.
- Web to PDF loads the web page you enter directly from that website, the same way a browser does. We do not receive the address or the page.
- Your history, settings and App Lock preference. If you turn on App Lock, Face ID or Touch ID is checked by iOS; the app never receives your biometric data.
- Delete files in History, or delete the app to remove everything.
What we do not collect:
- Your name, email address or any account — the app has no sign-in.
- The names or contents of your documents, or the passwords you use to lock or unlock them.
- Your photo library — images you import are picked by you with the system photo picker.
- Your precise location, contacts or browsing history.
3. Device permissions
Merge PDF, Split & Unlock asks for a permission only when you use the feature that needs it. You can decline, and you can change your choice at any time in iOS Settings.
- Camera — to scan paper documents into PDFs. Scans stay on your device.
- Photos (add only) — to save images you export from a PDF to your photo library. The app cannot read your library.
- Face ID — to protect the app with App Lock, only if you turn it on. iOS performs the check.
- Tracking (App Tracking Transparency) — to ask whether ads may use your advertising identifier. Saying no does not limit any feature.
4. Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with these service providers, each of which is bound by its own privacy policy and data-protection terms:
- Google AdMob (Google Mobile Ads and User Messaging Platform) — Shows the ads that keep the app free, measures how they perform, and asks for your ad-privacy choices where the law requires it. Receives: your advertising identifier (IDFA) only if you allow tracking, your IP address, device model, OS version, and your interactions with ads (views and taps). Their privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy
- Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics, Remote Config) — Tells us which tools are used and whether they finish, reports crashes, and delivers app and ad configuration. Usage events never include the names or contents of your documents. Receives: in-app usage events (for example which tool you opened and whether the job finished), device model, OS version, app-generated identifiers and crash logs. Their privacy policy: firebase.google.com/support/privacy
- Legal requirements — we may disclose information if required by law, or as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.
5. How long we keep it
Data stored on your device stays there until you delete it or uninstall the app. We do not run our own servers and keep no copy of the content you submit. Advertising partners retain ad data only as described in their own policies. Analytics and crash data are kept for the provider's standard retention period.
6. Legal bases
For personalised ads we rely on your consent (the App Tracking Transparency prompt and, where the law requires it, the ad consent form); you can withdraw it at any time. Non-personalised ads rely on our legitimate interest in keeping the app free. For analytics and crash diagnostics we rely on our legitimate interest in keeping the app working and improving it. For purchases, we rely on performing our contract with you.
7. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or the CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the processing of your personal information. In the app you can:
- Change your ad-privacy choices in *Settings → Ads & Privacy → Privacy options* (shown in regions where the law requires it, such as the EEA, the UK and some US states).
- Stop tracking in *iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking*.
- Remove ads with Premium.
- Revoke Camera, Photos or Face ID access in iOS Settings.
- Delete your files in *History*, or delete the app to remove everything.
