Privacy Policy
Chef AI: Fridge Recipes · Last updated September 27, 2026
This policy explains what information Chef AI: Fridge Recipes (“the app”, “we”) collects, why, and who it is shared with. It is written to match exactly what the app does.
Summary
- No ads, no tracking. We do not show third-party ads, do not collect your advertising identifier (IDFA), and do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- AI features. Content you choose to submit is sent to OpenAI and Magic Hour for processing — only after you agree on the in-app “AI & Your Privacy” screen.
- Apple Health. Health data stays on your device and is never sent to our AI providers, our servers, or any third party.
- No account, no server of our own. Your pantry, recipes, meal plans and profile are stored only on your device.
- We never sell your data.
1. What leaves your device
The table below lists everything that leaves your device.
Items sent to an AI provider are sent only after you agree on the in-app “AI & Your Privacy” screen. If you tap “Not now”, nothing is sent and the AI feature does not run.
| Data | Sent to | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Ingredients, recipe requests and chat messages you type or speak | OpenAI | Generate recipes and answers |
| Dietary profile and goals you enter (e.g. diet type, allergies, calorie target) | OpenAI | Tailor recipes and meal plans to you |
| Food photos you choose to scan | OpenAI | Estimate calories and nutrition |
| Text read from a receipt you scan (the photo itself is read on your device and not uploaded) | OpenAI | Add grocery items to your pantry |
| A text description of a recipe | Magic Hour | Create the recipe's picture |
| Voice audio while you use voice input | Apple (Speech Recognition) | Convert speech to text |
| Usage events, device model, OS version, app identifiers | Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics, Remote Config) | Understand usage and improve the app |
| Crash and performance reports | Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics, Remote Config) | Find and fix bugs |
2. What stays on your device
- Pantry items, saved recipes, meal plans, grocery lists and cooking history.
- Your profile and dietary preferences.
- Cached AI responses and recipe images, which you can clear in Settings → Clear Specific Data.
What we do not collect:
- Your name, email address or any account — the app has no sign-in.
- Your advertising identifier (IDFA), location, contacts or browsing history.
- Your Apple Health data (see section 4).
3. Device permissions
Chef AI: Fridge Recipes asks for a permission only when you use the feature that needs it. You can decline, and you can change your choice at any time in iOS Settings.
- Camera — to scan receipts and food photos. Receipts are read on your device; food photos are sent to OpenAI only if you have agreed to AI data sharing.
- Microphone and Speech Recognition — for voice ingredient input and hands-free cook mode. Audio is converted to text by Apple's speech service.
- Reminders — to add your weekly grocery list to the Reminders app. The app only writes that list and does not send your reminders anywhere.
- Apple Health — to personalise nutrition targets and log the calories you record (see section 4).
4. Apple Health (HealthKit)
If you connect Apple Health, the app uses it only to power in-app features:
- Read: body weight, active energy burned, workouts — used on your device to personalise nutrition targets, show progress and decide when to offer a post-workout meal idea.
- Write: dietary energy (calories you log) — saved to Apple Health with your permission.
Health data is kept on your device by Apple Health. We never send it to our AI providers, analytics providers, our servers, advertisers or anyone else, and we never use it for advertising or data mining.
You can review or revoke access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Chef.
5. Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal information and do not share it with advertisers. We share data only with these service providers, each of which is bound by its own privacy policy and data-protection terms:
- OpenAI — Generates recipes, meal plans and cooking answers, and estimates calories from food photos. Receives: the text, transcribed voice, receipt text and food photos you submit to AI features, plus the dietary profile and goals used to tailor results. Shared only with your in-app consent. Their privacy policy: openai.com/policies/privacy-policy
- Magic Hour — Creates a thumbnail image for a recipe. Receives: a short text description of the recipe — no photos and no personal data. Shared only with your in-app consent. Their privacy policy: magichour.ai/privacy-policy
- Apple (Speech Recognition) — Turns your voice into text when you speak ingredients or cook-mode commands. Receives: the audio of your voice input, while you are speaking. Their privacy policy: www.apple.com/legal/privacy
- Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics, Remote Config) — Tells us which features are used, reports crashes, and delivers app configuration. Never used for advertising or cross-app tracking. Receives: in-app usage events, device model, OS version, app-generated identifiers and crash logs. Their privacy policy: firebase.google.com/support/privacy
- Legal requirements — we may disclose information if required by law, or as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.
6. How long we keep it
Data stored on your device stays there until you delete it or uninstall the app. We do not run our own servers and keep no copy of the content you submit. AI providers process requests to return a result to you and retain request data only as described in their own policies. Analytics and crash data are kept for the provider's standard retention period.
7. Legal bases
For AI features and Apple Health we rely on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. For analytics and crash diagnostics we rely on our legitimate interest in keeping the app working and improving it. For purchases, we rely on performing our contract with you.
8. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or the CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the processing of your personal information. In the app you can:
- Withdraw AI consent in *Settings → Chef AI → Share data with AI*. After that, nothing more is sent to OpenAI or Magic Hour until you agree again.
- Revoke Apple Health, Camera, Microphone or Reminders access in iOS Settings.
- Delete your data in *Settings → Clear Specific Data*, or by deleting the app.
For any other request, email khoald2302.ai@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.
9. Tracking
We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites. We do not access your advertising identifier (IDFA), so the app never shows the App Tracking Transparency prompt.
10. Children
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows the latest version, and material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
